Are the itemgroups in the npc folder used by anything?

I cannot find any reference to the NC_foo itemgroups in npc folder in the source.

Currently hardcoded uses by NPCs.
SunshineDistillery proposed changing it and I went with a prototype PR, but didn’t really see much interest. https://github.com/CleverRaven/Cataclysm-DDA/pull/20616
