Gonna point out the elephant in the room at the risk of publically saying personal things of someone not present, which I hold to be a big fat no. I was under the understanding that he did in fact have autism. Or however one correctly expresses it, I do not remember if it is a condition one ‘has’ or ‘is’. Do people just not fucking take that into account? Point is, he took a shit-ton of care not to offend people, and tried to push for others to similarly work on their word choices and awareness of other’s lifestyle choices, or other facets of life. Easier to say Xe than to assume. You can always ask and learn about someone better by not assuming. He was doing something that made sense, and he was consistent about it. I respected that.
Everybody else frequently seemed to get up in his case for coming across socially awkward, as if being social via a text medium completely lacking in tone might be really damn difficult for some people. That’s what I meant by “never on the same page”. He viewed things differently, and I think a lot of people just pidgeonholed him as ‘difficult and unlikeable’ and then walked over him like that was his fault. You’re right about people’s personal opinions and mockery going down badly. Disliking someone’s work because you dislike the person is ridiculous and frankly irrational. I hate LC but if he did work as great as he claimed, I’d probably laud the work as good. They are distinct thinks that should be judged independently.
It’s entirely why I’m still defending KA101. Kinda felt like nobody did.
