So, body encumbrance makes you suck at melee, can I offset that with high enough melee and weapon skill? What’s the optimal balance between armor and encumbrance? Which survivor suit should i craft? I have 20 dex and 4 melee 3 cutting weapons. I’d like to stand a chance against survivors with guns and turrets, how much armor do I need for that?
You can negate the to hit penalty with skill but the melee speed malus from torso encumbrance can not be negated by skill. I would suggest you graft the heavy survivor gear. It ll protect you from just about everything safe some nasty effects and getting thrown through a way or shot by a tankdrone or chickenwalker.
Even the light version will neagte most dmg from normal z so if you feel like running arround more and got some firearms to deal with the bulkier foes your okay in light armor too… you ll just take some dmg from light weapon fire which would be negated by the heavy survivor suit. Its your choice.
And at 20 dex you do not need much skill at all. heavy survivor armor gives 2 torso encumbrance but with that much dex you ll still reliably hit even with skill lvl 0.
Balance between armor and encumbrance depends on your weapons. If you’re using fast-attacking stuff like combat knife or tanto, you should keep it low, preferably below 20.
If you’re using heavy stuff (currently only katana, nodachi, broad sword and zweihander are worth using out of the heavy stuff), you want heavy armor, but still less than 40.
Non-military turrets suck and can be reliably stopped by 100% coverage 20 cut armor. This is not hard to get, especially if you (ab)use the (imbalanced) tailor’s kit.
Military turrets are dangerous with anything except power armor. Even light power armor is too weak to be safe around those.
Survivors can have any weapon ranging from .22 (too weak to penetrate cloth) through rifles (like military turrets) to flamethrowers (not even power armor will help you here).
How am I supposed to heist the military outposts then? there are about 4 military antimateriel turrets, Smash into them with personal carrier?
And what’s so overpowered about tailor’s kit?

You can run them over with a car or snipe them with a powerfull weapon from afar… or you raid them at night avoiding the light.
You could also take a car frame and make it so it blocks vsion like — so.
push it arround in front of you that way you ll not gte shot as the turrets only fire at things they see.
If your close enough you can hack them or throw a grenade from an angle in which they can not see you just next to them.

Sadly only available through the magic of debugging. Solves a whole lot of problems though. Solves your eardrums too, though
In real life it will also solve your arm. But again its a cheat gun.
Fairy certain it would solve your lungs too, one hell of a muzzle thump.

Now an actual question is the granade supposed to be a random chance thing? The reason is that because I cheated it in once to see what it is as I have never found it and when it went off… bees… dear god the bees.

I found one legit a grand total of once, either off a zombie soldier or a military crate. Something military-related. Naturally I got the bees.
