Tips, Tricks, and Newb Questions!

Yeah, but I don’t really raid towns anymore. I drive through them to continue exploring the other side.
I have a huge armored vehicle. With a Welding rig, Food CO Kitchen Buddy, RV Kitchen Unit, Electric Forge, Chemistry Lab, and Water Tank. All I need now is a few more plastic jerry cans to make a huge barrel, as I have that bionic that draws water from the air to fill a container. And with a wooden barrel I can fill my car’s water supply easily.
I’m mutated fairly well, so I don’t wanna mess them up. : P I’ve got my supply of shrubs to eat. My character has no reason to raid towns.
I’m just exploring the world now, seeing what there is to see.

Why? Get a not installed metal tank and fill it directly. 225 units of clean water you can then fill into your installed vehicle water tank.

Doesn’t a crate hold more? And I dunno, I just like the idea of holding a crate.
Dumb just woke up thoughts there…
Of course, it would exactly fill up the vehicle. Though I still like the idea of using a crate, I even made a cargo storage next to the tank just for it. Might temporarily use a metal tank though.

Sooo… Strike the earth, huh? I assume that I could dig a staircase heading down (according on http://smf.cataclysmdda.com/index.php?topic=5877). But could I dig a narrow corridor or something like that?

How can I repair melee weapons?

You can do it by using a Jacqueshammer TM or a Jackhammer.

Or a pickaxe or a sonic resonator bionic or C4 or dynamite or mininukes.

I’m not playing development version so weapons don’t break for me but I believe you need to use ([a]ctivate) a soldering iron, then select the weapon from your inventory.

Or a weapon repair kit that is loaded with duct tape for wooden gear, eg, nailboard. You can also reinforce weapons for more damage/durability.

Gonna recommend you not use explosives to start out. Wait until you can get a good distance away from 'em as z-levels can be finicky and I’d hate for you to have a Quantum Bomb (it goes off as soon as you enter!) ruining your basement. Likewise, the mininuke irradiates its target site so not a good idea.

Pickaxe, J-Hammer, or resonator would be the way to go. Resonator’s probably the most cost-effective if you can find one; J-Hammer burns gasoline, and the pickaxe costs time and wears you out.

How do you get an NPC to stop following you?

I’d collect them if I could bring them back somewhere and tell them to stay put, but they just follow me forever and end up drawing zombies.

Also - anyone know about my earlier question with regards to city size? I tried playing with it, but I’m not sure how to interpret the results.

Urm, i dont think you can ask bug questions about npcs yet. Mostly due to the fact of them being turned off and all (does it change in the new version?). They are pretty broken most times and capable of crashing the game and causing you to have to delete the save.

I dunno about the citys tho.

I’ve not yet had a game crash caused by NPCs in the 0.A stable.

IMPOSSIBLE!

(Translation : WOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOO)

Yeah, they work surprisingly well. Aside from giving you “none” objects as rewards for their quests. But that’s better than an armed grenade, I guess.

More like lit dynamite or in older versions, active mininukes.

In my experience cuddling with them for a Foursome with Mr. Shotgun and Mrs. Katana works best.

You can build a bulletin board somewhere, designate the place as a camp, and there tell survivors to wait you in there. (THEY MAY STEAL ALL YOUR SWEET L00t though. (Mostly ammo and medicines IRC)

I suggest debugging you an insane amount of barter and speech skills to buy your stuff back.

Or just kill 'em all and let god sort them out. All thievery problems are solved by applying the right amounts of DEATH.

Be a cannibal and they become breakfast/second breakfast/lunch/dinner.

I tried to look both here and on the wiki, but unsuccesfully.

I downloaded the latest experimental and noticed melee martial arts. How do they work and what weapons are they compatible with?

If there’s something you can link me to (or just tell me right here if you know), I’d be grateful.

EDIT: Also, how do you completely disable translation? (Seems like just deleting the appropriate lang folder works)
