Well i just want to get a basic set up 2hrs later 1 duffle bag, 2 backpacks, 2 Trench coats, 2 cargo pants and shorts, wonders why encumberment is 6 or so.

One time i was wearing so much storage (only storage, except heavy survivor helmet, combat boots and light survivor gloves) that i was comfortable during winter

Here’s a fun fact I learned in my just the other day in my university teambuilding/bushcraft exercises-- a tampon can store up to a pint of water and also be used to plug bullet holes in a pinch. Simply drag it along the grass to collect the morning dew for a cool, refreshing beverage.

If it’s a warm beverage, well. You can at least hope it’s apple juice.  
Or not. Goddamn it, Shimoneta.

Also they’re hilarious dumped in someone’s pint of beer at about 2 AM.  
This has been scientifically proven. 😃

If you’re talking about the atomic lamp, you might just have the cocraftver closed or something.  
Yeah, you should be able to read and craft by it, assuming you’re either holding it, and it’s not covered, or it’s on the ground (and not covered, of course) and you’re within a 3x3 tile radius of it.
