Unless there are places to use cash cards that aren’t smashable vending machines, that seems very silly. Maybe the general rumor mill is that civilization still exists somewhere can NPCs can be deluded into thinking they can take their cash cards and retire on the Cayman Islands or something.

I don’t see any reason for that terminal to cause an explosion unless it breaks and starts sparking like an orgasming shocker zombie.
…short of that I think the worst it’ll do is lock you out and maybe sound an alarm. I mean it WAS a gas station in the states, people don’t NORMALLY booby trap their businesses to explode every time some jackass tries to steal gas. Realtors, police and the common public tend to frown upon the practice.
\*note, as I wrote this I couldn’t help but keep cracking up as I picktured little old ladies and random people going about their buisness as random gas stations explode sending people cartwheeling into to the distance. Is it a bird? A plane? Nope just another gas station victim. we are ganna have to start suing or something.

Cash cards are very mobile and the vending machines like them. And some folk still feel bad about smashing them while there is still good stuff inside. And paper money is less mobile and not really a useful shape for making anything out of.
Speaking of, cash cards should be throwable, and they should be magically sharpened by the power of over-dramatisation so that they can take off limbs… Also, they can unlock doors, everyone knows this to be true! And a reinforced cash card is a butchering and cutting tool. If you make a hole in one and stick your finger through it then you can spin it around and fly like a helicopter. You can activate them to play solitaire for a morale boost. If you eat them you have a small chance of gaining plastic mutations, where parts of your body turn into plastic, but mostly they just stay in your stomach forever and make you less hungry. If you polish them then they can deflect lasers! They are also a digging tool. You can layer them to produce armour and incorporate them as reinforcing in paper armour and make spiked-knuckles out of them. You can burn them to please the socialism gods, and get high…

I think the most important part is you should be able to put paper money into ATMs to deposit them on your card.
…and then smash the ATM in a way that lets you get the cash back and deposit it again, in an endless loop of crazy awesome money multiplying untill the ATM comes back with the message "The \_\_\_\_\_ ATM company is experiencing monetary difficulties, We hope to have these resolved soon. Currently the problem is scheduled to be fixed at {error input missing}

Man, this is Cata though. I bumped into a gas pump going 9mph trying to squeeze my car into the gas station and it violently exploded. I don’t trust gas stations at all. It even has that ominous ‘NO SMOKING’ sign outside the fence.

true you should be able to attempt to jimmy them open with the cards you drained (or didn’t) though with lower success than actual pick-lock. Not much better use for them, can’t even recycle them for plastic.

That aside
Cataclysm should have FrozenStickOfButter-in-a-sock as a weapon. Less physical damage than rock-in-sock but significantly more pain and can cause knockdowns.
