I think the turrets will be like the ones already on vehicles.
Also tracks where out over time, so you will have to deal with that.

One question I have about modding vehicles is how do you gather together all the parts? Some pieces (like the random 5-litre engines laying about in the street) are too heavy to actually carry, you can’t build them on-site, and as far as I’m aware, you can’t throw them on a push cart and move them back to your base that way. So how do you handle that when you have a steel plating over here, and an engine over there?

That’s a catch 22 sort of thing. I use to gather them by using a light vehicle. If you have a motorbike you can use that for gathering heavy parts by placing them in the bike’s box. But, well, for that you need a vehicle in the first place.

For lifting heavy stuff try to be as unequipped as possible and take some drugs that enhance strength (such as drinking alcohol until getting tipsy). If that doesn’t give you enough room and strength then I’m afraid you’re out of luck as of now.

If a shot of whiskey isn’t enough for you to pick up some of the heavier parts you might need hydraulic muscles. At +20 strength there isn’t much you can’t lift… at least while you have power.

It’s not really a catch 22 thing for me. My current character (the one in the Apocalypse Log) has a motorbike and flatbed, for scouting missions and large-scale raids, respectively. However, I would eventually like to try and build my own vehicle from scratch. The problem is gathering all the parts together. With the flatbed, my character doesn’t need to drag an object across town, only 20 spaces at the most to get it from the ground to the flatbed, or from the flatbed to a pile.

As far as I can see spikes and blades are roughly similar. I’ve gotten about equal damage on things with both, and it might just be a cutting/piercing change. The highest I’ve managed was 25,000 on a basic zombie with a spike so far.

Looking at the code, the list from more damage to least damage goes like this:

Vertical blade (350)
Spike (300)
Horizontal blade (250)

All of the have the same durability (100).

And about armors, the list goes this way, from more durable to less:

Hard plating (2300)
Steel plating (1000)
Superalloy plating (900)
Spiked plating (900)

Spiked plates also deal a bit more damage when bumping something with that part.

You pretty much have to drive your vehicle to the components too heavy to pick up at all. (I’m looking at you Hard Plating with your 1800 weight)
In the case of engines, it means putting in a lesser one, and driving to the nice find, removing the old one and installing the new one.

Makes me wonder, has anyone ever attained the mythical mechanics lv 12 required to install a second engine without the debug menu? Even at lv 8 mechanics it seems like I’m getting skill rust just as fast as I practice.

I tend to turn off skill rust a lot, or at least bring it down to where it won’t take away skills you already learned. I’ve managed to get a motorcycle going with two V8 engines. Tearing through towns at 250mph is kind of fun, and if I turn off cruise control and push it to the red I can get it going up to 698. Then I hit a tree or building and die.

On a related note: do mufflers actually do anything?

Mufflers only work on gas powered engines, and yes they make them quieter.

Donno exact numbers but with static spawns off it makes a 2L engine able to enter a city without ringing the dinner bell.

Yeah, sorry but I don’t believe something that I read or learnt only a few days ago will start to degrade until I know nothing about it. Skill rust should be capped at level as default, but I generally just turn it off. I’m a newbie, I’m allowed some leeway.
