Why not, devs?

Shitposting.

Explain what you’re talking about.

Whales write it to make interface/menus more easy.
Are you dev?

I am, and though I don’t typically handle the infrastructure I feel pretty safe in saying that we really aren’t interested in swapping engines at the moment.

Side note: when reading the subject, I thought “OK…going back to Whales’ NPC dialogue code, and specifically their tendency to overuse expletives? Nope.”

Not a very good idea, switch to cuss would mean lots of work, not to mention disregard all the work people have done until now - something that I’m sure few will do so willingly.

CDDA’s interface right now is good and functional enough IMO, it could be better, but the hassle to migrate to cuss is larger than any potential benefits that it might bring.

You dev? You see code? You try to add or modify interface?

Mochi’s saying the same thing I did, albeit more nicely, and has been around DDA for long enough to know what he’s talking about. Since Whales has made a total of three commits to this cuss thing, I’m not even sure it’s finished enough to use at this point.

1. No one has researched it and gotten an idea of what the pros/cons of using it are.
2. Migrating to a new backend is a lot of pointless work, it needs to have amazing benefits to go to the trouble of doing it.
3. A quick glance at the code tells me it doesn’t handle utf8
4. The “awesome data-driven layout” for menus looks like this:

`+i_elements </> 80 25 12 1 BG </> 0 0 80 25 0 0 0 737 -1 0 32 0 0 -1 1 32 0 0 -1 2 32 0 0 -1 3 32 0 0 -1 4 32 0 0 -1 5 32 0 0 -1 6 32 0 0 -1 7 32 0 0 -1 8 32 0 0 -1 9 32 0 0 -1 10 32 0 0 -1 11 32 0 0 Really? That’s odd, it works just fine here. Is it a windows thing? Chrome? (I hope no one is using … ugh… ie)

Always had the weird spoiler+code tag glitch.

Yeah, it happens both with Chrome (on my windows 7 side) and with Safari/Firefox (on my mac side). For some reason spoiler tags flatten the code box to less than a single line, meaning it’s impossible to read without copy/pasting it somewhere else. (The Dwarf Fortress forums also seem to have the same problem as well for me).

Probably a SMF issue then. Weird that your Firefox has the problem and mine doesn’t, though. ???

Might be a combination of the fact that it’s mac and that I haven’t updated it in forever. 😛 Generally I just use Safari on my mac side, which has the problem.

It’s an older-browser issue, FSN123.
