A rather ancient technique of preserving food relied on simply burying it underground. A reasonably deep hole is considerably cooler and would lend to preserving food for a bit longer during the hotter months. Essentially the ability to bury items underground in either shallow or deep pits (lending itself to buried supply caches or player-made legacy treasure hunts :D). Also, this would lend to the process of pit burning charcoal as a primitive means of mass producing charcoal. Not as efficient or sophisticated as kiln-burning, lighting a pile of wood in a pit and then burying it will start a process of making it slow-burn into charcoal. If the player prematurely digs up the charcoal before it’s complete, an accident may occur while the charcoal starts and continues to burn. Putting more wood into a pit will make the burning process take longer.

Should have a chance of digging up your moose and instead discovering some underground beastie chomping away at your dinner.

> A pot-in-pot refrigerator, clay pot cooler or zeer (Arabic: زير‎) is an evaporative cooling refrigeration device which does not use electricity. It uses a porous outer earthenware pot (lined with wet sand) containing an inner pot (which can be glazed to prevent penetration by the liquid) within which the food is placed. The evaporation of the outer liquid draws heat from the inner pot. The device can be used to cool any substance, and requires only a flow of relatively dry air and a source of

I suppose we’ll need pottery before them though.

I’m hoping pottery and digging up clay will become a thing in CDDA eventually, then interesting items such as this could be made, giving pottery a reason to be invested into.

Edit: Hey! I just realised pottery’s already in the latest experimental! I guess the devs are way ahead of me, heh heh!
