Stuff like the Luger or C96 could do well in mansion showcases. Family heirlooms. Smash glass/pick lock, get weapon. Not like you’d find such museum pieces in gun stores, methinks. MAYBE in a pawn shop.

I’d be rather wary against adding too many more, actually: the ones I did choose were chosen because they either filled a void in the existing armory (all the machineguns and the Striker-12, for example) are of considerable mechanical intrigue (the Liberty III, the Striker-12, the Mateba Autorevolver) or have a considerable cultural presence (the Luger, the Tommygun, the Pancor). With tons o’ guns everything starts to feel samey (M1887 is too similar to the Mossberg, the Browning is too similar to half the 9mms we’ve already got, the Makerov doesn’t have the same kind of osmosis capability the AKs have had, and I don’t even know how the Galil would get over here since the US market for it’s rather minimal from what I see). That Kal-Tec pistol is actually unusual enough that it might be worth adding, though, and since there aren’t any .45 revolvers I suppose the Webley could be introduced with some hand-waving about this model being a modded job or something (though for a .45 revolver I’d rather look for US-developed ones first like the S&W Governor).

- Reflex/Red Dot Sight (all guns; increase accuracy slightly) - Tactical Flashlight (all guns; 'a'ctivating the gun turns on/off the light)

From what I've read, a reflex/red dot would functionally be identical to a holographic sight, since both are just projections of images onto a specially-designed pane by some means, so it'd be rather redundent.

Places where they seem most logical, really, though anywhere else you might find analogues to them in the mapitems file. Machineguns in bunkers and crash sites, the Luger and Mauser and Thompson in pawn shops, the others in assorted stashes and gun shops and whatnot.

That it may be, but it’s also a bit too similar to the Remington 870 (I always keep forgetting which one of it or the mossberg’s the 6-shooter) when you start to try breaking it down to game mechanics for my tastes - same ballpark barrel length and total length (ergo, volume and accuracy) same ballpark weight (and thus recoil) and only 1 shell smaller in capacity. There’s also the issue that, according to the wikipedia writeup, 1887s don’t work well with modern smokeless powders and the smokeless 1901 only comes in 10-gauge, which isn’t worth the hassle of adding for only one gun. Some companies have tried to make smokeless-capable reproductions in 12-gauge, but sales have supposedly been lackluster especially given all the pump-actions already hogging the market (like the Remington and Mossberg)

The Striker brings large shell capacities (albeit with middling performance and longer reloads) and the Pancor and CAWS bring reduced recoil through increased weight and gas operation (and fits great with the futuristic nature of the game) but when I start crunching the numbers the 1887 just doesn’t stand away from the Remington enough.

No, the Saiga is everything but the six-shot version. Mossberg is 8, Saiga is 10.
Remington has the 6 shot magazine.

The Remington is the 6-shooter shotgun. The Mossberg is the 8-shot. The Saiga is 10-shots with the all-in-one reload.

With the 1887, I’m aware that the original doesn’t use black powder, and I’m aware that the 1901 only used 10-gauge. HOWEVER, this is a game. Much like the inventory system is, this can be abstracted.

By the way, the Jackhammer never made it to full production. Its Wikipedia writeup states that there are possibly only 2 working fully-automatic prototypes existing in the world.

Hence the bit about gun counterfeiters in the CAWS description. We’ve already got dudes making guns using 3D printers and the like (albeit simply out of plastics that can’t handle the stresses of bullet discharges for many rounds, but I digress) so imagine how advanced that shit’s going to be by 2050. And again, as noted it’s not just about whether the the 1901 can handle 12-gauge, but the fact that it’s just too similar to stuff already in the game.

If you don’t mind not having the backblast, the Flamethrower’s effect is practically indistinguishable from a rocket launcher: it creates a 3x3 fire centered at the target point. Cloning the item & changing the effect would allow whatever rocket one wants.

Request: MP5SD. It’s the H&K MP5 with an integrated suppressor, so should be noticeably quieter, less muzzle flash if that’s a Thing, and do somewhat less damage. SWAT/military exclusive, unless gun laws went C+ at some point prior to the Cata.
