Anyone got any tips for taking them on? They seem to be death traps, with tantalizing loot.

High powered rifle, heavy armor and at night, night vision if you have it, smoke nades for when things get too nasty and you have to back out. Teargas might do the job well against bandits as well. Approach from the trees if you can, pick things off and still have nearby cover that way.

cloaking cbm, realy big amout of power, reinforced katana and ninjutsu

Toss a firecracker pack at them, attract every zombie from everywhere ever. NPCs cannot deal with monsters.
