This is actually… creepy. Specially the suicides link. Why there are even those pages anyways? They should be erased. Even if i am tempted to know, i won’t read something that maybe, with the strings of life flowing as they do, i would end up using if i get fucked up enough.

It is there because if people are convinced they want to end their life it is best for them to do it as painless as possible with is high as much success as possible. The ASH newsgroup was a place for people who were depressed (or wanted suicide as an option ‘out’ so to speak, just like Hunter S. Thompson).

The newsgroup has helped a few people not end their lives. The whole methods FAQ is just an historical artefact of the newsgroup. It can be pretty comforting for people to know they are not alone in their problems. Might want to think about that before you start saying pages should be erased.

If you are afraid you might be a suicide risk in the future, perhaps it is best to do something about it now already. Or just make peace with it, and prepare as best as you can. (I’m not saying people should commit suicide, and I think if you feel like it you should get help. But help can come in quite a few different ways, censorship is not the answer).

Again, if you are going to go of realism, id say you would need to take many large handfuls of the things to have a serious effect.

For some heart/blood conditions it is actually a very smart idea to take one or 2 a day to thin your blood out a bit.

Not really. You’d need to ingest an unrealistic amount for it to do anything more than make you sick. Taking too much of any medication should at the very least give you an effect similar to food poisoning, though.

I had a family member euthanise themself. They were counselled by a group called Exit International on the hypoxia method, which was developed by a physician and voluntary euthanasia expert called Philip Nitschke. But none of this means anything to you, because you’re just some fool kid who thinks recommending cutting your throat as a suicide method makes you sound badass. Locating your own carotid arteries is not considerably hard, just do some excercise and it will be pretty easy to pinpoint its location with a reasonable accuracy (well at least for suicide purposes). Now as to how easy it is to have the will to drive a knife through it I really have no Idea, and I really don’t feel inclined to find out, but If you have a knife of considerable size and make a decent swing, it would probably not be hard to severe both it and the jugular in the same strike . However I seriously doubt that suicide by exsanguination is the nice and painless way to go.

The calculation circulating around is extremely wrong, by several orders of magnitude. I am not sure how anyone got that result.

Wikipedia says 500mg/kg is very life threatening, which is 0.5g/kg. Assuming a weight of 80kg that would make it 40g (not 1kg!).

In short: There really should be some side effects to extreme usage.

According to wikipedia adverse side effects start at 150mg/kg. The standard aspirin dosage in the US is 325mg per tablet. In accordance you would have to take roughly half the amount of your weight in kg for those effects to show.

So if the cataclysm survivor weights 80kg, about 40 pills would result in vomiting, nausea and dizziness. Double that if you want to encounter life threatening effects.

I am absolutely sure that the person firmly decided to commit suicide, finds the will to swing a knife.
Even a strong swing of knife is not needed if it is sharpened sharply.

So, if it 100% guaranteed, and even if you near some hospital there is very small chance that surgeon can save you before you bleed to death - so, so maybe you should not do it?

Yeah, I’m sure this amount of aspirin is closer to reality than 1 kilogram.
I heard gastric bleeding are not uncommon for those, who take aspirin regularly, and I doubt that they eat it at least 100 grams.

It’s starting to get on my (and probably several others’) nerves, has absolutely nothing to do with the proposed negative side-effects of aspirin in-game, and does not help those who are viewing this and could potentially be dealing with depression. Yes, from evidence provided with real life research, there should be some minor side-effects from consuming a ludicrous amount of aspirin; possibly just vomiting and other temporary effects for the time being.
